In December 2023, Specialty Aquatics and Consulting completed a comprehensive commercial pool renovation at Eglin Air Force Base (AFB) in Florida, reinforcing our commitment to federal contracting excellence and high-performance aquatic facility management. This large-scale upgrade focused on structural protection, hydraulic efficiency, advanced filtration, and improved system automation for a 150,000-gallon commercial swimming pool serving military personnel and their families.

As a trusted federal pool contractor, our team delivered a renovation built around durability, compliance, energy efficiency, and long-term operational performance.

Green to Clean Treatment & Professional Acid Wash

We began the project with a full green-to-clean pool restoration, followed by a professional acid wash treatment. Over time, commercial pools—especially high-usage facilities—can develop algae buildup, staining, and surface discoloration.

Our acid wash process safely removed embedded contaminants, restored the pool’s finish, and returned the waterline and surface to like-new condition. For military installations and government facilities, maintaining clean, safe, and visually appealing aquatic environments is critical for both compliance and user experience.

Mastic Expansion Joint Replacement for Structural Protection

One of the most critical components of this renovation was the removal and replacement of the pool deck mastic expansion joint.

Old, deteriorated mastic allows water intrusion between the pool shell and deck. If left untreated, this can cause:

  • Soil washout beneath the deck

  • Deck settling and cracking

  • Coping damage

  • Surface structural failure

By installing new, high-performance commercial-grade mastic, we restored the expansion joint’s flexibility and watertight seal. This preventative structural upgrade protects the pool deck from long-term damage and reduces costly future repairs—an essential priority in federal facility asset management.

Complete Pump Room Replumbing & Variable Speed Pump Installation

The existing pump room configuration was not maintenance-friendly, with plumbing lines running over strainer pots and limited access points for service technicians. Poor hydraulic layout increases labor time, safety risk, and operational inefficiencies.

Our team fully replumbed the pump room, creating:

  • Clean access points for maintenance teams

  • Improved hydraulic flow

  • Safer equipment layout

  • Increased serviceability

We also installed energy-efficient variable speed commercial pool pumps, significantly improving operational control and reducing energy consumption. Variable speed technology allows federal facilities to optimize turnover rates while lowering operating costs—an important factor in government energy efficiency initiatives.

Additionally, we upgraded the system’s multiport valves to a commercial-grade model, providing enhanced control and durability for long-term performance.

Pentair TR140C Filter Replacement & Glass Media Conversion

Filtration is the backbone of commercial pool water quality. We replaced four existing units with Pentair TR140C commercial sand filters, then upgraded the filtration media from traditional sand to high-performance glass media.

Glass media offers several advantages for large commercial aquatic facilities:

  • Captures smaller particles for cleaner water

  • Extends media lifespan

  • Improves backwash efficiency

  • Reduces water waste

  • Enhances overall filtration performance

For a high-volume, 150,000-gallon military base pool, this upgrade significantly improves water clarity and long-term operating efficiency.

Commercial Salt System Upgrade: Pool Pilot 6-Cell System

To meet the chlorine demand of this large-capacity pool, we replaced the previous salt chlorination system with a commercial Pool Pilot 6-Cell system.

This system is engineered to handle heavy bather loads and large water volumes while delivering:

  • Consistent sanitizer production

  • Improved water balance control

  • Reduced chemical handling

  • Lower long-term operational costs

For federal and military installations, reliable sanitation systems are non-negotiable. The Pool Pilot 6-Cell provides the performance and redundancy required in high-demand environments.
